"I painted this favourite spot marvelling at the huge skies, the solid strength of the earth rising up proudly from the water, and the fascinating horizontal lines along the side of the mountains. After  admiring it, painting it,  and wondering about it's origins, I had to return to climb up this lump of earth called Ben Ohau - and it was wonderful! "
