In her home studio in Dunedin, New Zealand, Jayne brings her original oil paintings to life, inspired by the breathtaking places she loves to explore with family and friends. From the majestic Southern Alps to the crystal-clear lakes, she captures the vibrant colors of the sky, sea, and land. Jayne begins her process by taking photographs of the landscapes, using these images as references. She sketches her composition on canvas or board, then meticulously mixes primary colors to match her photos. As she layers the paint, she adds her unique interpretation, using bold lines to emphasize the forms and shadows of the land. This journey of creation is just about the final piece; it’s an exploration full of surprises, as the painting often finds its own direction along the way, aiming to recreate the experience being there in that stunning environment.
